Just four years after the Civil War, on December 11, 1869 a group of residents from Jarrettsville met in an old log schoolhouse and organized the Jarrettsville Building Association. During the turbulent years after the Civil War, these concerned citizens felt the need for a stable financial institution for the community to entrust their savings and provide a source of money to encourage home ownership.
On December 17, 1959, The Association was accepted for insurance of accounts by the Federal Government and became the oldest Savings and Loan in Maryland to be insured. On June 16, 1966, the Association obtained a Federal chapter and became Jarrettsville Federal Savings and Loan Association. |
